About Sean Clark Associates

Hello, and welcome to our website. My name is Sean Clark and I specialise in producing structural calculations and drawings for building regulation applications for a wide variety of residential and commercial projects such as home extensions, conversions and new houses.  We also provide every service that can be expected from a structural engineer such as structural surveys and reports, pre-purchase inspections and pre planning advisory service.

Within this website you can find useful information about what’s involved when considering any structural works to your property.

DSCF8476I started my journey into the building industry from the young age of thirteen. I used to be a labourer working for my stepfather during school holidays and weekends. This led me to starting an apprenticeship in structural engineering straight from school. I studied at Brighton Technical College while working as an apprentice.

I gained my ONC in civil engineering as well as many peripheral qualifications. I then moved up to the University of Brighton to obtain my HNC in Civil Engineering. All the while, I was working full time within the industry. I feel this was vitally important to grow as an engineer with real site experience and the practical knowledge that an academic degree cannot provide.

While working for my previous employer in 1996, I qualified as a HSE part 3 commercial diver and was responsible for the safe and efficient running of underwater structural works on projects such as the West Pier, Palace (now Brighton) Pier, Brighton Marina as well as pipe line inspections and remedial works specification. All the while I was also responsible for the more standard structural working environment, producing structural surveys, structural reports, and specifications, through lounge diners, chimney removals, loft conversions, subsidence analysis, structural analysis, renovations, listed building alterations and new build construction.

In 1997 I sat my professional exams with the Institute of Structural Engineers and passed easily first time. This gained the IEng AMI StructE letters after my name. This means Incorporated Engineer on the register of engineers and an Associate Member of the Institute of Structural Engineers.

I started my own business in April 2000 during difficult economic times and it’s still going strong today. I don’t advertise and word of mouth is how I achieve 95% of my client base. I still work with all aspects of structural engineering in the built environment.

I work very hard and genuinely care about providing a high level of service at an affordable price. I will guide you through the building regulation / structural process and do my best to answer any questions you may have about your building works.

I carry full professional indemnity insurance and have a full CPD record logged with the Institute of Structural Engineers.

My office is based in Lancing, West Sussex. However my current work catchment area is from Southampton in the West to Dover in the East. I regularly work in London on commercial and residential projects.

I enjoy surfing, stand up paddle boarding, diving, martial arts, mountain biking and motorbiking. Which comes in very handy for punctual surveys and meetings without the hassle of parking in towns and cities.
